(p219) The first of the series of waterfalls is 35 feet (11 m) in 2015-01-12 Blackwater Falls State Park is located in the Allegheny Mountains of Tucker County, West Virginia, USA.The centerpiece of the park is Blackwater Falls, a 62-foot (19 m) cascade where the Blackwater River leaves its leisurely course in Canaan Valley and enters rugged Blackwater Canyon.It is among the most photographed venues in the state and appears on calendars, stationery, and advertisements. You can see this really well in my photos of Elakala Falls, which is very close by. To access Blackwater Falls, head to the town of Davis, WV in Tucker County. Once you make it to the town, turn onto Route 29 (Blackwater Falls Road) for 1.4 miles. Then turn left onto Canyon Point Road for about 400 feet until you reach a large parking lot. These trails are fun and easy for the kiddos too! Balanced Rocks, Blackwater Falls and Lindy Point’s scenic spots are right on the trail, but if you truly want to see the beauty of Elakala Falls you need to hike down to them on some paths people have created themselves.
Park in the parking area for Blackwater Lodge near the left edge of the lodge (if you’re viewing it from the front). If you walk just a few feet from the parking lot, you should find the trail leading to the falls. Blackwater Falls State Park near Davis, West Virginia is a fantastic destination! The namesake falls exhibit a 57-foot drop, For a short loop, take Elakala Trail past the nearby Elakala Falls, and continue straight across the paved main park road to Balanced Rock Trail.
