Two giant molecular clouds are a part of it, Orion A and Orion B. This Close-up view comprises many large groups of bright nebulae, dark clouds in Orion A & B. A giant molecular cloud is a large complex of interstellar gas and dust, composed mostly of molecular hydrogen but also containing many other types of interstellar molecule.GMCs are the coolest (10 to 20 K) and densest (10 6 to 10 10 particles per m 3) portions of the interstellar medium.Stretching typically over 150 light-years and containing between about 100,000 and several million solar Orion Molecular Cloud • 100 pc across • 200,000 M • Only a few of its stars close to the near edge can be seen in visible light. • But infrared images penetrate the dust and show many more stars. The Orion molecular cloud complex is one of the closest regions of active high-mass star formation, making it ideal for the study of PDRs (Gordon & Sorochenko 2009;O’Dell et al. 2015). The Orion molecular cloud was first modelled to have multiple layers of ionised gas by Ahmad (1976) and Boughton (1978) further elaborated on the ideas. What is a Molecular Cloud? • All molecular clouds have dense regions where the gas is primarily molecular. • Giant molecular clouds (GMCs) are large clouds with 104M < M < 6x106M sizes in the range 10-100 pc. • The filing factor of GMCs is low; there about 4000 in the Milky Way).

For the most part the OMC is an area rich in molecules in the interstellar medium, which is a prerequisite for the formation of stars. This cloud is one of two giant molecular clouds in the Orion molecular cloud complex; the other cloud is Orion B, which lies east of Orion’s Belt.

Within this molecular cloud are that are located as far as 100pc from the W3/W4/W5 cloud complex. Orion A and Orion B molecular clouds, and in both of these clouds, dense stellar clusters B. The Orion Molecular Cloud Complex extends throughout the constellation of Orion and includes Barnard's Loop, the Horsehead Nebula, M43, M78, and the Flame Nebula. Stars are forming throughout the entire Cloud Complex, but most of the young stars are concentrated in dense clusters like the one illuminating the Orion Nebula. M42 is a small part of a huge complex called the Orion Molecular Cloud (OMC). Actually, this complex is divided into OMC-1 and OMC-2.

This is inside a turbulent birthing ground for new stars known as the Orion B molecular cloud complex, located 1,350 light-years away. Credit: NASA/ESA Located between 1,000 and 1,400 light years away, the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex (Orion Complex for short) is a star-forming region spanning hundreds of light years across.
